Assignment 5.I.1

  1. Inside of your Unit 2 folder, create a new folder titled Chapter 5.  Everything you complete for Chapter 5 will be stored within this folder.

  1. Read each of these statements and mark whether you agree or disagree.

Assignment 5.1.1

  1. Watch Video 1.1
  2. As you watch the video, record the missing words from pages 104-105 of the textbook as they pop up on the left side of the video screen by filling in this form.  (pages 104-105).
  3. Discussion Questions:
    1. What are some ways that you can invest in yourself?
    2. In what ways can you do a better job of investing in yourself now?
  4. Watch Video 1.2
  5. As you watch the video, record the missing words from page 106 of the textbook as they pop up on the left side of the video screen by filling in this form.  (page 106) .
  6. Discussion Questions:
    1. Review: List the first three Foundations. What is the fourth?
    2. What is the student loan myth?

Assignment 5.1.2

  1. The Student Loan Myth— Persuasive Writing Assignment:  Write a persuasive essay to someone who believes they must take out a student loan in order to attend college. Name the file Student Loan Myths-(your initials).  Your persuasive essay will include the following four paragraphs:
    • Introductory paragraph: Provide a clear statement of your position in the topic sentence. Give clear arguments that support this position.
    • One supporting paragraph: Your argument stated above should be covered in a paragraph. Support your paragraph with specific examples, facts and reasoning.
    • One paragraph stating the opposite viewpoint: Use an opposing statement and then refute it. For example, you might say, “One could argue that (state opposite viewpoint), but I believe that (state your viewpoint).”
    • Closing paragraph: Restate the position. Reaffirm the most compelling argument. Do not introduce new arguments in the conclusion. 

Assignment 5.1.3

  1. Make a copy of this Google Document.
  2. Rename the file to Personal Finance Journal-C5-(Your Initials).
  3. Move this file into your Chapter 5 folder in your Google Drive.
  4. Fill out the first three rows of the table by answering the question.
